*PARIS 2024 - RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

OLYMPIC RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

With the retirement of Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Linoy Ashram (ISR), the throne is empty, but there is no shortage of contenders for the throne. The podium favourites in the individual competition in Paris include current world champion Darja Varfolomeev (GER), 2022 world champion Sofia Raffaeli (ITA) and 2024 European champion Stiliana Nikolova (BUL), world champion Daria Atamanov (ISR) and Boryana Kaleyn (BUL), one of only six Olympic returnees in the field of 24 gymnasts. Whatever happens, it will be historic.

PREVIEW --:
* Individual all-around: Behind the trio of top favourites mentioned above, however, other interesting athletes are looking to make an impressive impression, including Daria Atamanov (ISR) and Boryana Kaleyn (BUL), the European all-around champions from 2022 and 2023 respectively. Atamanov will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of her compatriot Linoy Ashram, the Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, while Kaleyn, who will be competing in her second Olympic Games, will be Bulgaria's second medal hope alongside Nikolova. Another highlight is 16-year-old Taisiia Onofriichuk (UKR) from Ukraine, who is competing in the senior category for the first time this year. Her challenge will be to make it into the top ten after qualifying like all the other 24 participants in order to reach the final.
.

* In the rhythmic gymnastics group competition, world champions Israel, European champions Bulgaria and a strong team from the People's Republic of China will face Italy, Spain, Brazil and hosts France in one of the least predictable competitions in Olympic history.
Fourteen groups will compete for the Olympic all-around title: Of course, Olympic champions Bulgaria will be looking to defend their title, but with a completely new group of gymnasts: Magdalina Minevska, Kamelia Petrova, Sofia Ivanova, Rachel Stoyanov and Margarita Vasileva recently became European all-around champions and will be hoping to win a competition that will be characterised by incredible skill and artistry. Other medal contenders are the groups from Spain, China, Israel and Italy. They have all won medals at continental and world championships in recent years, so the competition between all 14 groups for a place in the final eight is eagerly awaited.
