After 2013 and 2017, Bulgaria's capital Sofia has now taken over the 36th Trampoline World Championships 2022 for the 3rd time in the last decade, which will take place from November 16 - 19, just a few weeks after hosting the World Championships of Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Japan's Mori HIKARU earned two World titles in the space of an hour on the Worlds final day of competition, solidifying her status as one of the greats of her generation in Trampoline. The women’s Trampoline final was a close-fought affair, with Mori one of the favorites among a field that contained 2021 World champion Bryony Page (GBR) and Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Zhu Xueying (CHN), as well as top qualifier Hu Yicheng (CHN). Page, who earned a perfect score for horizontal displacement in Friday’s qualification, set a high standard as the first performer in the final, notching 55.950 points. But there was no stopping Mori: sharp and precise, the Tokyo native delivered on her 14.8 Difficulty to score 56.230, a number nobody else was able to reach. Hu, who led an early qualification round, delivered a graceful performance for bronze, shutting Zhu out of the medals by a mere 0.02.
Top qualifier Dylan SCHMIDT (NZL) kept his cool to win the biggest international title of his career, making history for New Zealand. Inspired by Bronwyn Dibb’s (NZL) Double Mini-trampoline victory Friday, Schmidt, the 2014 Youth Olympic champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist, set himself to do the same Saturday. With the highest Time of Flight and best Execution, he literally placed himself above the rest of the field, scoring 60.720 for his country’s first World title in men’s Trampoline. Allan Morante (FRA) had the best chance to challenge Schmidt, but a slight mistake late in his exercise left him scrambling to finish strongly. With silver, he became the first Frenchman to stand on the podium since David Martin in 2003. At his first World Championships, 23-year-old Ishikawa Yamato (JPN) capped off an excellent day for Japan with bronze.

* SYNCHRO:
After World silver in 2021 and the European title in Rimini (ITA) in June, the World title seemed a natural progression for men’s Synchonised Trampoline pair Fabian VOGEL and Matthias PFLEIDERER (GER), who remained relaxed even in the final. World gold tops off more than a decade of Synchro accomplishments for the pair, who started jumping together as adolescents in 2009. In 2013, they won the World Age Group Competitions title in Synchronised Trampoline in the Arena Sofia, so there is a certain synchronicity to winning the senior title nine years later in the same venue. Silver went to Diogo Abreu and Pedro Ferreira (POR), two thirds of the team that won Portugal’s first World title in Trampoline Friday, provoking hearty celebrations from their teammates. Florestan Riou and Pierre Gouzou (FRA) won bronze, the second consecutive World Synchro bronze for Gouzou and first medal for Riou.
