England's gymnasts win Leverkusen Cup 2022 ahead of Germany

Team ENGLAND I scored a narrow points victory at the 45th International LEVERKUSENCUP 2022.
In front of an atmospheric crowd of more than 1,200 spectators in the Ostermann Arena in Leverkusen (GER), the English girls relegated Team GERMANY II to second place with 98.899 : 97.832 points, ahead of ENGLAND II (96.949) in third place.
In the individual all-around, Anna-Lena KOENIG, fourth of the German Championships, from the German club TV Bodesweier, gave herself the best present on her 16th birthday: With best scores on two apparatuses, she improved on the German national all-around finals in Berlin and won in front of an enthusiastic crowd with 49.616 points ahead of Shanna-Kae GRANT (ENG; 49.216) and the second German gymnast, Salina BOUSMAYO (GER; KLZ Düsseldorf; 48.816).
Altogether eight teams from the five nations Germany, England, Netherlands, Slovenia and Czech Republic were at the start.

Anna-Lena KOENIG: Triple gilded birthday

♦ Three gold medals for a birthday girl from Germany

"Happy Ann-Lena" won the all-around gold with apparatus bests on balance beam (12.300) ahead of Tommera Hendricks (ENG; 12.100) and on floor with 13.250 points ahead of Shanna-Kae Grant (NED; 12.050), beating bronze medalist on this apparatus at the German Championships, Salina Bousmayo (12.850) and relegating her to third place in the all-around here in Leverkusen
* Cologne's Aiyu ZHU (GER) took the victory on vault with the day's highest score of 13.050 points, but dropped back after beam slip-ups in the all-around (11th).

* Emily Todd (England) won the uneven bars with 12.300 points, beating 14-year-old Florine Seifner from TZ DSHS in Cologne with 12.133 points.

At the end, the international gymnasts again signed autographs for the numerous young visitors - a successful conclusion for the traditional Leverkusen gymnastics tournament in Olympic female apparatus gymnastics, which after a two-year pandemic break thus impressively demonstrated its impressive role as a top-class international highlight between the European Championships, the German Championships and the upcoming World Championships in Liverpool - after all, since its premiere in 1976, artistic gymnasts from almost 100 different clubs from more than 40 nations and from all five continents have so far taken advantage of this attractive international starting opportunity.
