The 14th European Championships TeamGym 2022, organized by the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation FLGym on behalf of "European Gymnastics" (EG), take place from September 14 to 17 in Luxembourg's largest sports center, the "Centre National Sportif et Culturel".
The arena, called "Coque" ('shell') for short, is located on the Kirchberg plateau of Luxembourg's capital and has a spectator capacity of 8,000.
The discipline TeamGym is one of the youngest gymnastics competitions, whose European Championships are held every two years.
* TODAY, on Saturday, September 17, the three decisions of these European Championships will fall ...:

♦ The first European TeamGym competition - then called Euroteam - was held in Finland in 1996. Already one year later there were German national Championships, which were considered as national qualification for the European Championships 1998 (- at that time still called Euroteam).
♦ Official TeamGym European Championships have been held every two years since 2010 (Sweden) and from then on junior teams are also eligible to participate. + + +
♦♦ TeamGym
- is a team competition with three disciplines:
⇒ FLOOR EXERCISES
- Group choreographies of gymnastic elements to instrumental music.
⇒ TUMBLING
- acrobatic series of 6 athletes in flowing acrobatics with instrumental music accompaniment;
⇒ TRAMPETTE
- jumping series of somersaults/screws with mini-tramp and partly over vaulting table
.
All three disciplines require effective teamwork and excellent technique with difficult acrobatic and gymnastic elements.
The TeamGym competitions are divided into three sections: women, men and mixed teams.
The event is attractive to spectators and media as well as sponsors, as it is both entertaining and exciting.
The TeamGym competitions are characterized by a very good mood and an exciting atmosphere.

♦ ECh - BALANCES since 1996
After 13 competitions since 1996 and in the sum of 13 x 3 = 39 European Championships of the three disciplines (women, men, mixed) the gold medals went 37 times (!!) to the Scandinavian representatives, alone 21x to Denmark, 11x to Sweden, 3x to Iceland and 1x to Norway.
Only two nations have ever been able to celebrate a victory: the Czech Mix Team in Odense in 1998 and Germany's women's group in Birmingham in 2000.
The majority of all medals also remained in Scandinavian hands. Only Estonia and Great Britain won a runner-up title each; 2x bronze went to Germany more than 20 years ago and only the Czech Republic and most recently Italy in Guimaraes enjoyed a bronze plaque each.
This says everything about the current favorites of the current European Championships in Luxembourg:
Outside of Scandinavia, this extremely attractive and dynamic group discipline unfortunately still lives in the shadows, also as far as a serious commitment of the national federations is concerned, with the exception perhaps of the Austrian Professional Association for Gymnastics, where one notices hopeful beginnings of development.

* EG report --: On the final day of these TeamGym Europeans, the host had the honour to welcome His Royal Highness Henri Grand Duke of Luxembourg to the magnificent D’Coque Sports Centre.
The ECh finals started off with the mixed teams.
The tension was palable with Denmark and Great Britain giving each other a run for their money. Performing last on tumble, Great Britain needed 18.650 to surpass the Danes. After a nail-biting wait, the score flashed: 19.600! This is the first ever European TeamGym title won by Great Britain! Top qualifier and defending champion Sweden had some issues but manage to beat Norway for the bronze medal.
Sweden regrouped in the women’s team final, where, as the top qualifier, they cruised to victory posting the highest scores on floor and trampet. Defending Champion Iceland was the best on tumble securing the silver medal easily ahead of Denmark.
In the ever-spectacular men’s team final top qualifier Denmark and defending Champion Sweden went head-to-head in the first two rotations. Denmark sealed the deal on floor, regaining the European title they have won every edition except last year when they didn’t participate because of covid-19. Norway excelled in the last rotation to overtake the Swedish men for the silver.
