Marcel NGUYEN |
Anyone who saw Germany's two-time Olympic silver medalist from London (2012) Marcel NGUYEN limping away at the friendly meet in Magglingen /Switzerland last weekend when he left the mat with visible pain after landing too low after his jump (double somersault rollover) already suspected it:
That won't work anymore, despite his fighting intentions, with his eagerly desired comeback attempt for the European Gymnastics Championships in August in his hometown of Munich...! This was also confirmed today by his management: Marcel has to cancel the last German European Championship qualifier next week because of another injury to his knee, which has already been damaged by two cruciate ligament tears ... at best he will only experience the European Championship as a passive visitor!
* The comment of the 34-year-old exceptional athlete is correspondingly disappointed:
"It's extremely bitter. I'm very frustrated, I've invested a lot in the last three years. Munich is my hometown, so I wanted to show what I can do again. Now I have to clear my head for a few days and then I'm still looking forward to the European Championships. It's an outstanding sporting event and it's an honor for me to be a part of it as an ambassador for Munich 2022. My teammates wish I wish them the greatest possible success and will keep my fingers crossed for them live in the Olympic Hall.”
