The castle-topped medieval city north of Porto will provide a striking contrast as competitors from 32 nations and all five continents duke it out in one of Gymnastics’s most contemporary disciplines at the Multiusos de Guimaraes arena. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are at stake in Aerobic’s seven categories — Individual Women, Individual Men, Mixed Pair, Trio, Group, Aerobic Dance and Aerobic Step, and an overall team competition. Reigning World champions in every discipline except Mixed Pair, Aerobic Step and Teams are registered to compete in Guimaraes.

♦ FINALS:
* FIG - report--: * Gymnasts from the Republic of Korea, Hungary, and — for the first time in history — Vietnam took home the final four titles up for grabs at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships Saturday in Guimaraes (POR): With a routine featuring a spectacular throw that sent Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi ten feet in the air, Vietnam’s Nguyen Che Thanh, Le Hoang Phong, Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi, Nguyen Viet Anh, and Vuong Hoai An literally soared to the World Group title, the country’s first in Aerobic Gymnastics. Gold capped a triumphant Worlds for the small but mighty delegation representing Vietnam, which earned three medals, including Mixed Pairs bronze from Tran and Le and Trio bronze Friday.
* Korea’s ‘Rocketman’ wins individual title, Dance team dominates again
Fourth individually Guimaraes four years ago, Kim Hanjin (KOR) bided his time through the pandemic, dreaming of a return to the World stage. The golden dream came true, as Kim blazed through an eye-popping 4.0 Difficulty routine, delivering one element after another with a panache that brought teammates and competitors to their feet by the end of his “Rocket Man” routine. The 27-year-old has had plenty of success on the World stage, including a share of the Trio title in 2016 and gold with Korea’s popular Aerobic Dance team in 2018. What drove him to come back, however, was the one medal he had not won then.
* Korea’s Aerobic Dance team — Ryu Jusun, Ryu Minji, Han Jaehyun, Koh Eunbyeol, Kim Eungsoo, Lee Junkyu, Song Sungkyu, and Yoon Changil — closed out the evening with Korea’s second gold for a fabulous routine to music from “Spiderman”. The title is the Dance Team’s third at the past four Worlds. Gold gave Korea three titles overall in Guimaraes, their best result ever at a World Championships.
