TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES


196 gymnasts compete in Artistic Gymnastics, from July 24 up to August 03, at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo (JPN).
The numbers include nine Olympic gold medallists from Games reaching as far back as 1992, as well as five gymnasts, who have been crowned champions at the Youth Olympic Games.
The oldest in the competition, Oksana Chusovitina (UZB) and Marian Dragulescu (ROU), are Gymnastics elder statespeople whose careers have spanned decades, while Ilia Kovtun (UKR) and Jutta Verkest (BEL), the youngest in this group, represent the new generation ...:

* Individual Olympic Qualifiers:
A total of 32 individual athletes will qualify nominative spots based on their finish in all-around qualifications (one per NOC) and apparatus finals (maximum of three per NOC across all apparatuses)
Note: Up to 18 athletes were eligible to qualify via apparatus finals. In 2019, 12 gymnasts qualified this way, with the remaining six spots reallocated to all-around qualifications.

Three Olympic champions

  Simone BILES  (USA)
- 2016, Rio: 4 Gold: All-Around, Team, Vault, and Floor Exercise, also Bronze at Balance Beam. She won an incredible 19 gold medals at world championships!

     2016 Rio de Janeiro: Balance Beam - in front of Biles (!);
   in 2015 she was World -Vice Champion on balance beam and won European bronze at the uneven bars;

  Oksana CHUSOVITINA (UZB)
  - 1992 Barcelona with the Unified Team;
 - 2008 Beijing: Silver on Vault for Germany.
Oksana is the oldest gymnast at these Olympic Games and will set a new record with her 8th uninterrupted participation in the Olympics since Barcelona (1992).
"After that it's good! Enough is enough ......!" she explained and, at the age of
46, she announces her retirement from international sport after Tokyo.
