The battle for gold displayed between Israel’s Linoy ASHRAM and Belarussian Alina HARNASKO kept fans around the world on the edge of their seat. With just 0.050 separating them going into the final rotation, Alina Harnasko went for broke with clubs, posting a 26.550, the highest score of the final, for a total of 100.900. All eyes were on Linoy Ashram as she performed a fantastic hoop routine to score … 26.500, equalling Harnasko’s total score. As the tie breaking rules state, first the total execution score is compared. In this case, both gymnasts had the same execution score over all 4 apparatus. Then, the technical deductions were taken into account, moving Ashram into the lead ahead of Harnasko.
For the bronze medal, several gymnasts were in contention before the fourth and last routine but it was Anastasia SALOS (BLR) that stepped up to the challenge set. She joined her teammate on the podium, guaranteeing a successful event for her country. A drop in her final routine with clubs ended Boryana Kaleyn’s medal chances. The Bulgarian finished fourth ahead of Nicol Zelikman (ISR) and Yeva Meleshchuk (UKR).

History was written at the 36th European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Kyiv (UKR) as both Estonia and Turkey earned their first ever medals!
* In the 5 balls final, hosts Ukraine delivered a breath-taking routine, scoring 35.350 and setting a high standard for the other groups. Israel came within a point while top qualifier Azerbaijan couldn’t repeat Thursday’s stunning performance, so Ukraine took the European title ahead of Israel and Estonia clinched the bronze.
* The final with 3 hoops / 2 pairs of clubs was nail-biting until the very end. Turkey and Ukraine both scored 31.150, with the same difficulty and execution score. In this case, the technical deductions determine the final ranking, bumping Ukraine into second.
The first ever medal for Turkey, and it is gold immediately.
The first European Champions of 2020 were crowned in Kiev (UKR) as the senior groups performed their 3 hoops and 2 pairs of clubs routines to conclude their all-around battle. The junior individuals competed with clubs and ribbons for a place on the team podium and in the apparatus finals.
After day 1, the group of Azerbaijan led with half a point advantage over Israel who produced a stunning hoops & clubs routine to clinch their first European all-around title. Ukraine overtook Estonia in an exciting battle for bronze.

The joint effort of the host nation’s senior group and junior individuals ensured the victory in the team competition was theirs, narrowly edging Israel by just 0.250. Azerbaijan grabbed the bronze medal.
