* PREVIEW --: Among the heavy hitters scheduled to compete in Szombathely:
2008 Olympic Pommel Horse silver medallist Filip Ude (CRO), 2012 Olympic Vault bronze medallist Igor Radivilov (UKR), eight-time World champion Marian Dragulescu (ROU) and 2017 World Horizontal Bar champion Tin Srbic (CRO).
Suiting up for the hosts is a solid Hungarian squad that includes 2019 Szombathely champions Noemi Makra on Balance Beam and David Vecsernyes on Horizontal Bar, as well as the return of specialist Boglarka Devai, the 2018 European champion on Vault. Sidelined in 2019 with a foot injury, 20-year-old Devai is primed to make her return to the international stage in her hometown.
** Competition in the age of COVID-19

• Hungary has recorded just over 6,600 cases of the virus to date, with nearly half of those coming from Budapest, 230 km east of Szombathely. As of 1st September, Hungary’s borders are closed to foreign travelers, though the government is allowing international sporting events to take place provided that athletes, their entourages, and organisers adhere to strict guidelines.
• At present, foreign gymnasts, coaches, officials, and staff wishing to enter Hungary will be required to provide two negative COVID-19 tests taken two days apart. Additionally, those traveling within the country are advised to avoid public transport and are banned from attending public gatherings.
• Once in Szombathely, social distancing measures will be in place and face masks must be worn at all times in hotels, transport, and at the competition venue unless the gymnast is performing on the apparatus. Judges will sit spaced one meter apart from each other and like gymnasts will sanitise their hands upon entering and leaving the field of play.
• Body temperature checks will be carried out as athletes enter the venue for training and competition, and anyone with a temperature above 37.5 degrees celsius will be tested for the virus immediately. Should a delegation member test positive for COVID-19, the entire delegation will be isolated and contact tracing used to inform others whom delegation members may have come into contact with.

♦ (2) FIG World Challenge Cup 2020 - BAKU / AZE

After Melbourne in February, the 2^nd competition of the 2020 calendar year of the FIG Challenge Cup series should take place in Azerbaijan's capital Baku. In fact, some athletes had come and the organizers carried out the qualifications on March 12 and 13. Then, however, due to the corona, following the decision of the FIG world association, the finals were not held. When, where and whether there will be a sequel at all this year is just as completely open at the moment as the date of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo is vacant ...!

♦ (1) FIG World Challenge Cup 2020 - MELBOURNE / AUS

At this weekend Melbourne (Feb 20 - 23) is the sixth of the eight-stop 2019-2020 World Cup series, and also a Tokyo 2020 qualifying event.
The World Challenge cup in Australia opened the international Olympic season. Six more events will follow this Olympic year, next in Baku / AZE, Doha / QAT, in May in Varna / BUL, in June in Cairo / EGY, in Koper /SLO,  Osijek / CRO and Mersin / TUR.
