* f i g - -: Following an unprecedented interruption of nearly six months due to COVID-19, Gymnastics competition is set to resume with the FIG World Challenge Cup Series in Artistic Gymnastics 2-4 October in Szombathely (HUN). More than 80 gymnasts representing 18 nations spanning the European continent have enthusiastically responded to the call for registrations for the event in Hungary’s oldest city, a staple on the international calendar since its inception in 2008.

2008 Olympic Pommel Horse silver medallist Filip Ude (CRO), 2012 Olympic Vault bronze medallist Igor Radivilov (UKR), eight-time World champion Marian Dragulescu (ROU) and 2017 World Horizontal Bar champion Tin Srbic (CRO).
Suiting up for the hosts is a solid Hungarian squad that includes 2019 Szombathely champions Noemi Makra on Balance Beam and David Vecsernyes on Horizontal Bar, as well as the return of specialist Boglarka Devai, the 2018 European champion on Vault. Sidelined in 2019 with a foot injury, 20-year-old Devai is primed to make her return to the international stage in her hometown.

After Melbourne in February, the 2nd competition of the 2020 calendar year of the FIG Challenge Cup series should take place in Azerbaijan's capital Baku. In fact, some athletes had come and the organizers carried out the qualifications on March 12 and 13. At this weekend Melbourne (Feb 20 - 23) is the sixth of the eight-stop 2019-2020 World Cup series, and also a Tokyo 2020 qualifying event.
The World Challenge cup in Australia opened the international Olympic season. Six more events will follow this Olympic year, next in Baku / AZE, Doha / QAT, in May in Varna / BUL, in June in Cairo / EGY, in Koper /SLO, Osijek / CRO and Mersin / TUR.
