Hungary’s Daniel Bali emerged as the dominant figure at the first FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Cup of 2019 with three gold medals – including a third successive triumph in the Individual Men’s final. Bali was not the only gymnast to excel at the event in Cantanhede, Portugal between 29-31 March – it was certainly a weekend to remember for both Ayse Onbasi (TUR) and Sara Silva (POR), the respective gold and silver medallists in the Individual Women’s final:
17'-years-old Ayse Onbasi (TUR) had a World Cup debut to remember as she outscored the field for artistry and execution en route to first place on the podium with a total of 20.700. Portugal’s Sara Silva claimed her first World Cup medal – silver – by edging past Pykhtova (RUS) by 0.05 points with the help of a routine notable for its higher difficulty.
* Groups --: Finally, there was little to separate the top two teams in the Groups final where Bulgaria’s Tihomir Barotev, Ivelina Lukaki, Antonio Papazov, Darina Pashova and Ana Maria Stoilova edged past Russia’s Ivanova, Timur Kulaev, Iuliia Plakhotniuk, Pykhtova and Anatasiia Ziubina by 0.5 points. Both groups performed equally difficult routines but Bulgaria prevailed thanks to their higher scores for execution (8,5) and artistry (8.95). China took the bronze medal.
* This was the 6th Aerobic World Cup event in Cantanhede. The next and second 2019 Aerobic World Cup will take place in Tokyo on 13-14 April with the → 30th Suzuki FIG World Cup.
