Oksana CHUSOVITINA (UZB) and Aljaz PEGAN were elected to the FIG Athletes Commission as representative for Women's & Men's Artistic Gymnastics during the athletes' assembly at the World Championships in Montreal, Canada.
* The 42 years old Usbekian world star has been elected for a four year term, succeeding Elizabeth Tweddle (GBR). “I’d like to thank everyone. I will try to do my best to give you the best,” said Chusovitina, who during her presentation to the assembled gymnasts highlighted her experience, which according to her has taught her what is necessary to improve the comfort and well-being of the athletes. Chusovitina has participated at seven Olympic Games, and is competing in her 16th World Championships now in Montreal.
* Aljaz Pegan (43) (SLO) was elected to the FIG Athletes Commission as representative for Men's Artistic Gymnastics. He has been elected to serve a four year term, succeeding Jani Tanskanen (FIN). “After 35 years as a gymnast and four years as a coach, I’m here to help you,” the 43-year-old told the assembled athletes in a presentation that highlighted his extensive experience. “I would like to make the best possible connection between the FIG and the sportsmen, and help them understand the rules.”
During a senior international career that spanned nearly 20 years, Pegan won four World medals, including gold on Horizontal Bar in 2005 Melbourne). He is also the originator of a unique release element on the event that bears his name in the Men’s Code of Points.
