FIG: Four original Gymnastics elements named for their inventors at Rio

* fi g - news --: It is a way of achieving immortality in Gymnastics: the gymnast who has an original skill named after them in the Code of Points assures that his or her name will live on in the sport, years after they have taken their final bows on the international stage.
In Rio in August 2016, the FIG Technical Committees approved four new elements -- two in Men's and two in Women's Artistic Gymnastics -- to be named for the gymnasts who performed them. All four elements were successfully performed during the 2016 Olympic Games and will be published in their respective Code of Points. They are as follows:

The "Gebeshian"


* Performed by: Houry Gebeshian, Armenia
* Apparatus: Uneven Bars
* Description: A hecht mount with a 360 degree turn with repulsion off the low bar to the high bar.
* Value: D Note:
In Rio, Gebeshian became the first female gymnast to represent Armenia at an Olympic Games.

The "Shirai II" vault


* Performed by: Kenzo Shirai, Japan
* App: Vault
* Description: A roundoff entry vault with a back somersault in a stretched body position with three and a half twists.
* Value: 6.4
* Note: Shirai, along with Korea’s Kim Hee Hoon, performed this vault with three twists at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Shirai, a.k.a. “Mr. Twist,” used his new vault to help him win Olympic bronze on Vault.

!! Additionally, two elements not successfully performed in the men's competition will be published in the Men's Code of Points, though they will not be named for the gymnast who attempted them. If done well by their originators at a future competition, they may be named retroactively.

* Description: Facing forward, the gymnast bursts off the vault table and performs three compete somersaults before hitting the ground.
