Simone Biles (USA) |
After she made history on June 26 with her fourth consecutive national title, Simone BILES, the three-time world all-around champion (2013–15), leads after Day 1 of the 2016 US Women's Olympic Trials with the score of 61,850 (!!), followed by Laura Hernandez (60,850) and Alexandra Raisman (59,950) ...
Biles, Hernandez and Raisman appear to be in solid position while Gabby Douglas (7th: 58,550) is still searching for the form that helped her win an eye-opening silver in the all-around to Biles at the world championships last fall.
At the start Sunday night, all eyes were locked on the 14 women vying for those five coveted spots, Simone BILES earning hers automatically by winning the U.S. Olympic Trials with an all around score of 123.250, the three-time reigning World and four-time U.S. champion outdistancing Laurie Hernandez by 2.100 points (121.150). Hernandez, just 16 and the 2015 junior national champion, was her explosive self on Sunday night again, following up her bronze medal from nationals two weeks ago with another top-three finish.
In the two-day event, Alexandra Raisman was third, Skinner was fourth, with Smith, Maggie Nichols and Douglas going five, six, seven.
