In the last week of may and only 12 weeks before the Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro the Swiss city of Bern welcomeed the altogether 38th MEN's European Championships since the beginning in 1955. To the fourth time the Swiss Gymnastics Federation was the host of men's Europeans, starting 1975 also in Bern to the very first time, followed by two times in Lausanne (1990, 2008).
37 nations participated in the men's elite competitions, of which 30 started in a team and the rest with individual athletes. In total there will be 165 elite athletes.
In the Junior competitions 34 nations (158 athletes) will contest in 31 teams plus three countries with individuals gymnasts only.

2016 Men's ECh Balance
* RUSSIA was again the dominant nation in men's category and defended the team title from Sofia 2014 and won this team vote since 1996 for the 6th time.
Most successful athlete of these ECh was David BELYAVSKI, as the European champion on parallel bars, with silver on pommel horse and he took bronze on the high bar.
With the gold medal of Nikita NAGORNIY on floor exercises and the silver medal of Denis ABLYAZIN on the still rings Russia completed its balance of three gold, two silver and one bronze as the top nation of this event.
GREAT BRITAIN is the No. two in medal ranking: After winning the Team silver Nile WILSON won the high bar gold medal in front of his compatriot Kristian THOMAS.
ARMENIA's third place in medal ranking is a surprice, but Harutyun MERDINYAN with gold on pommel horse and Vahagb DAVTYAN with two silver medals (still rings and vault) are both no stranger athletes in the szene.
UKRAINE was sad about the fourth place in the team competition, but Europe's best all-arounder Oleg VERNIAIEV consoled by winning the gold medal on vault and the silver medal on the parallel bars.
GREECE was happy about the victory of its still rings specialist Eleftherios PETROUNIAS, and
ROMANIA about the two silver medals of its veteran Marian Dragulescu (floor exercises, vault).
Host SWITZERLAND won with bronze its very first team medal and at the final day a second bronze by Christian BAUMANN on pommel horse.
ISRAEL & GERMANY got each bronze medal bei Alexander SHATILOV (floor exercises) and Marcel NGUYEN (parallel bars.)
Finally the European titles went to 5 nations and the medals to altigether 9 different countries.

GREAT BRITAINS' juniors were the best from all nations beating the Russians not only with the team, but also by winning of the all-around title by Giarnni REGINI -MORAN, who earned also the apparatus title on floor exercise and thwo silver (vault and parallel bars). Joe FRASER won the title an parallel bar, silver on high bar and bronze on pommel horse
RUSSIA's all-around silver medalist Andrei MAKOLOV is the new junior champion on vault and hig bar and vice champion on floor, Sergei NAIDIN was the best on pommel horse.
GERMANY surprised wth Nick KLESSING, who beat the strong armenian Avetisyan on still rings:

♦ Juniors All-around FINAL - FRIDAY, May 27
<< 17 year old Giarnni Regini-Moran has conquered European after being crowned the 2016 junior European all-around champion in Bern (SUI). Giarnni showed exactly why he is being tipped for senior stardom with an outstanding display across the six apparatus to comfortably take the title with a score of 86.198 points, followed by Russia's Andrei MAKOLOV (84,965).
Joe FRASER (GBR) joined Giarnni on the medal podium with a fine display characterised by high skill and a great determination to succeed as proven by his pressure routine on the final apparatus, the high bar, which secured the bronze medal with 83.764 points.

British boy's artistic gymnastics team started their European Championships off with gold in the men's junior team competition on Wednesday. Donell Osbourne, Giarnni Regini-Moran, Joe Fraser, Joshua Nathan and Jamie Lewis made a sensational comeback to take the win after trailing Russia by five marks with just two apparatus to go! The team performed outstandingly to grab the gold and take their place on the top of the podium.
