* fig-news --: The drawing of lots for April's Aquece Rio Test Event, the final opportunity for gymnasts to qualify to compete at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games, was held Wednesday at FIG Headquarters in Lausanne (SUI).
The draw determines the rotation order for each country in the competition, which can play a big role in the strategy of gymnasts.
♦♦ ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS - The Pre-Olympic Test Event of artistic gymnastics will determine four of the 12 Men's and Women's teams that will compete in the team competition in Artistic Gymnastics at the Rio 2016 Olympics along with a host of individuals who will compete for glory in the All-around and event finals.
♦ Eight teams in Men's Gymnastics (Germany, France, Netherlands, Ukraine, Spain, Romania, Canada and Belgium ! (- instead Belarus: After abandoning the starting place at the test competition by Belarus (16.) for the men engaged team of Belgium after the occupied to the last Worlds in Glasgow Rank 17) and
♦ eight teams in Women's Gymnastics (Brazil, France, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Australia, Korea and Switzerland) will battle for the remaining four Olympic team berths up for grabs.
♦ Ninety eight men and 98 women will compete in Artistic Gymnastics at this summer's Olympic Games.
60 of them will compete with their teammates on 12 teams in contention for the team title.
♦ Barring places for gymnasts who advanced to the Games by dint of winning a medal in individual apparatus finals at the 2015 World Championships, places for the host country, underrepresented continents not already qualified and two gymnasts invited to compete by the Olympic Tripartite Commission, the rest of the competitors will be determined at the Test Event.
Berths won at the Test Event are nominative in Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics for individual gymnasts, and non-nominative in Trampoline Gymnastics.
→This means that in Artistic & Rhythmic individual gymnasts, who win places to the Games win them for themselves and cannot be replaced at the Games by a different gymnast from the same country."The Test Event is very important," said Nellie Kim, President of the FIG Women's Artistic Technical Committee. “It is the final chance for teams that finished out of the top eight at the World Championships to qualify for the Games. For individuals who have not qualified, they too will take this opportunity to do everything they can to earn a place at the Olympics.”
All the Presidents of the FIG Technical Committees whose disciplines are part of the Olympic programme (Men's and Women's Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampoline Gymnastics), participated in the draw.

→ Trampolinists who qualify at the Test Event win a spot for their national federations, who will name their Olympian closer to the Games.
