The 2019 artistic gymnastics world championships have been awarded to the German city of Stuttgart, which will host the tournament for the third time from October 4-13. International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) President Bruno Grandi said "after the success of the 2007 edition, Stuttgart was an obvious choice. It is a city with high-quality infrastructures and has proven extremely capable of putting on first-rate sports events."
The worlds will serve as a major qualification event for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Grandi paid tribute to Stuttgart's handling of the world championships in rhythmic gymnastics this week. Glasgow is to host the next artistic gymnastics worlds from October 23 to Nov. 1, with Montreal hosting the following one in 2017 and Doha, Qatar hosting the 2018 edition.
