WG 2015: F.I.G. Gala - Emotional Highlight

20 stunning performances, 500 gymnasts, 90 minutes. The first FIG Gala performance offered an unforgettable experience for a sold-out Helsinki Ice Hall at Friday evening. If Finland didn’t love gymnastics enough already it certainly does now. Those gymnasts are enjoying one of the highlights of the World Gymnaestrada week on Friday night as it’s time for the first of the three performances of the FIG Gala. First theme of the night is love and there couldn’t be a more appropriate one. Performances follow one another, yet none are forgettable. It would be impossible to choose the best and there is no need to because there is enough of World Gymnaestrada love for everyone.

* One of the most emotional is the performance by Great Britain’s National Disabilities Display Team, but to be honest, there is no performance that doesn’t make me feel something. Some make me feel like crying a bit just for the beauty of the world, some just make me smile like an idiot. FIG Gala, like World Gymnaestrada, truly is something everyone needs to experience themselves to know what the fuss is all about.

The FIG Gala manages to take three often-used words and truly capture their meaning. The message of World Gymnaestrada is no secret to anyone in this country anymore. Congratulations gymnastics, you have officially charmed Helsinki - and probably the rest of Finland too.
