Jossimar Calvo (COL), Marta Kulesza-Pihan (POL) |
For the fourth time the Mexican Gymnastics Federation had invited to its "Mexican Open 2014", which took place this weekend in Acapulco.
The men's competition was won by the Columbian Jossimar CALVO with 88.750 points followed bythe US-American Danell Leyva (87.950) and the Japanese Kenzo Kaneko (87.300). Germany's Andreas Bretschneider ranked on fourth place (84.550), and risked again is currently difficult element of artistic gymnastics, the somersault with double screw (= single element of difficulty for the category "H") successfully and celebrated with index 7.2 the most difficult and highly-rated high bar exercise (15,600) of the day.
Two international "evergreens" given in Acapulco the scene of the Women's competition:
Poland's Marta PIHAN-KULESZA won with a score of 54.450 and the 42-year-old Grand Dame of the international artistic gymnastic scene, Oxana Chusovitina (UZB) covered with still respectable 53,000 points the third rank. Between these two seasoned and amazing personalities of the artistic gymnastics scene placed with Emily Little (53.550) from Australia, a representative of an entirely different generation ...
The 4th Mexican Open 2014 finished in great style with a wonderful party right on the beach just feet from the ocean.
What a perfect way to celebrate a competition that excited the fans with some amazing performances. From Andreas Bretschneider GER successfully competing his signature move, a double twisting Kovacs to a brilliant parallel bars routine and a very elegant high bar routine from Danell Leyva USA ,the gymnasts rocked the building last night at the Fairmont Princess Resort in Acapulco. But Jossimar Calvo COL and Martha Pihan-Kulesza POL rose to the top in the all around with steady and well performed routines with only one exception, Calvo's fall on his first Kolman on high bar.
Enus Mariani ITA was chosen as the "Most Elegant" female gymnast and received a gorgeous GK leotard valued at more than $10,000.
Interestingly, Kysla Angelina UKR who received this prize last year actually competed in the leotard she won. With all the political turmoil in her country, everyone here was thrilled to see her shine so brightly--somewhat of a symbol of how sport can bring hope to many desperate situations!!!
