Slava Corn in "IOC's Women & Sports" Comission

 * f i g ---: International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has named FIG First Vice President Slava Corn (CAN) to the IOC's "Women and Sports" Commission, the IOC announced Thursday morning. A former gymnast, Corn, who has been a member of the FIG Executive Committee since 1992, also chairs the FIG Media and Communication Commission. She was instrumental in developing and implementing the highly successful FIG Academy Program, an international coaching education system that helps experienced coaches spread their knowledge in countries who are trying to bolster their gymnastics programs. She has also been Director of programming at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in Toronto, and is regarded one of the pioneers of women's sport in Canada.
"I am very pleased and honoured to accept the nomination to the Women and Sport Commission," Corn said in accepting President Bach's nomination. "I will do my best to further the efforts of women in sport very actively."
The role of the Women and Sport Commission is to advise the IOC Executive Board on the policy to deploy in the area of promoting women in sport. Corn will be in good company on the Commission, which includes Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Al Hussein (UAE) and speed skater Yang Yang, who won China's first-ever gold medal at a Winter Olympic Games.
