This venue was opened in September 2013 with a Rod Stewart concert. Seventeen gymnasts representing six different Commonwealth nations are fighting from today on (12 resp. 6 pm. local time) for the Nations competition and also to qualify for the all-around final (Friday) or the apparatus finals (Saturday) ...

The 2014 Commonwealth Games gymnastics competitions have started in style with a spectacular rhythmic gymnastics team competition at the magnificent SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

On the first day of the rhythmic gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, Patricia Bezzoubenko of Thornhill, Ont., Maria Kitkarska of Montreal and Annabelle Kovacs of Vancouver combined to win the team gold medal for CANADA, which scored 141,455 points. “It was a very proud moment,” said Annabelle Kovacs. “We we’re very excited and felt like we deserved to win because we had worked so hard as a team.”
It was Team WALES who led the Home Nations and took the silver medal, their first ever Commonwealth Games team medal. The strong Welsh team of 2012 Olympian Francesca Jones ,British Champion Laura Halford and Nikara Jenkins held their nerve to score a team total of 136.625 points behind gold medal winners and pre-event favourites Canada who scored 141.455.
MALAYSIA took the bronze medal. The individual top 16 in the qualification advance to the all around final and the top eight in the individual events advance to finals on Friday and Saturday.

Individual All-Around Final
Make that two gold medals and counting for Canada's rhythmic gymnast Patricia Bezzoubenko. A day after leading Canada to first place in the team event, Bezzoubenko came back in the individual all around on Friday to earn her second gold medal of the Commonwealth Games in a field of the 16 finalists.Bezzoubenko, the gold medal favourite going into the Games, lived up to the high expectations to finish first in three of four events for a total score of 59.175 points.
Francesca Jones of Wales won the silver with 57.350 and teammate Laura Halford took the bronze with 56.225.
If, however, the all-around results compares with the top nations of the European countries, should be noted an almost astronomical difference of more than 14 (!) points So the three medalists of the 2014 Commonwealth Games would not have been among the top 20 European gymnasts of the last European Championships in Baku ...

Bezzoubenko was born in Vancouver but grew up in Moscow, where she trains with members of Russia's national team. She lists Thornhill, Ont., as her hometown. Bezzoubenko was fifth in the hoop apparatus but rebounded to win the ball, clubs and closing ribbon segment.

Apparatus Finals
Canadian rhythmic gymnast Patricia Bezzoubenko has won her sixth medal of the Commonwealth Games, adding a bronze to her five gold in Glasgow on Saturday. The 17-year-old started the day by winning the individual hoop, ball and clubs events, adding to her individual all-around title and her gold in the team event from earlier in the Games. "Nobody's perfect. . . I am proud," Bezzoubenko said. "This is my life and my accomplishments. I feel amazing, here at my first Commonwealth Games. I am happy for my country and my coaches. So happy to compete for Canada." She had a chance to match the single-Games record with a sixth gold medal* in the closing ribbon event, but had to settle for bronze. "I did my work and didn't think about medals; this was a good performance for me," she said.
Welsh gymnast Frankie Jones, the six time British champion, 2012 Olympian and a seven time Commonwealth Games medal winner ending her illustrious career in fitting style with the ribbon gold medal.
