The 13th World Championships of Aerobic Gymnastics 2014 of the FIG take place from June 23 to 29 in Cancun, Mexico, in the Moon Palace Resort.
Nearly 600 gymnasts from 42 countries on six continents are set to participate at the 2014 World Aerobic Gymnastics Championships and World Age Group competitions, set for June 23-29 in Cancun (MEX).
The breathtaking Moon Palace Resort on the Riviera Maya will welcome a grand total of 575 gymnasts as it hosts the first-ever edition of the World Aerobic Championships off the European continent.
Inaugurated in 1995 and held every two years since 2000, the World Championships and World Age Group competitions are the biggest event in Aerobic gymnastics outside the quadrennial World Games.
Among the big names expected to compete are reigning World Games champions Benjamin Garavel (FRA, Men's Individual), Oana Constantin (ROU), and Mixed Pairs Garavel /Aurélie Joly (FRA), Vicente Lli /Sara Moreno (ESP), Maria Bianca Becze / Marius Ciprian Petruse (ROU) and Thi Thu Ha Tran / Ba Dong Vu (VIE), all of whom shared one very crowded place atop the podium at the World Games.
Russia and Mexico, two nations with especially strong Aerobic traditions, are sending the maximum number of athletes to compete in every event at the World Championships, maximizing their medal-earning potential. Spain, Hungary and South Korea have also entered an indivdual or group of gymnasts in every event. France, among the strongest Aerobic nations on the World Cup circuit, has registered to send gymnasts in everything but Aerobic Dance.
