After Cottbus and Doha in March and Ljubljana and Osijek in April the 5th Challenge Cup of the year 2014 took place this weekend for the first time in the Portuguese Anadia instead, who finished the 2-day qualifications on Friday, already.
Many of the stars from the top European nations renounced participation, only some days after the Europeans in Sofia. However, athletes from overseas took part - from the USA, Brazil and other South American Nations and even also from China - albeit more representatives of the second row or the younger generation to test in such international comparisons.
On men's side US-gymnast Eddy PENEV won the floor (6.5) = 15.625), his compatriot Alexander NADDUR (6.4 = 15,225) on the pommel horse and with daily high score on the rings, the Brazilian powerhouse Artur ZANETTI (6.7) = 15,700).
Also on second final day in Anadia the US boys advanced to the top nation in Portugal: The floor winner Eddie PENEV was also the best on vault (15.100) and high bar for itself won Samuel MIKULAK (6.6) = 15,450). Only on parallel bars saved the Frenchman Kevin ANTONIOTTI the European honor and defeated there by 15,500 (6.4) doyen Mitja Petkovsek (SLO; 15.475), if only the narrowest of margins.
On the first day of the finals only prevented the Slovenian Teja BELAK with the victory on vault (14.112) a full success of guests from overseas:
Second winneron uneven bars was Jessica LOPEZ (VEN; (6.0) = 14.325).
