For the second time (after 1984)  Austria's capital Vienna -is host of the European Championships again, in which 29th anniversary from Friday May 31 on to Sunday June 02, the best European gymnasts with the individual devices as well as the best junior groups are determined.

Prior to the 29th European Championships began the post-Olympic season already very early, already in early February with the 19th Miss Valentine Cup was first advertised in Tartu as the World Cup.
It was followed by the beginning of March's Grand Prix in Moscow (RUS) and Holon (ISR) and for the young, the meaningful tournament "Schmiden International" (GER). The March ended with the 3rd Grand Prix Thiais (FRA).

For Ukraine, among the experienced Alina Maksimenko also Victoria Mazur and Anna Risatdinowa in the team, who did an furious start into the pre-Olympic season with victory in the all-around decison of the Valentine Cup.
Melitina Staniouta is undoubtlyi again the star of the Byelorussians (- with Katsiarina Halkina and Arina Charopa), which was also started well in Tartu in February with 3 apparatus's victories, as all-around best in Pesaro where she won 3 finals, as well as in Sofia added another device success.
All other predictions of who is where and how will place - mostly behind the exceptional Russian gymnasts - probably depends mainly on the daily sporting form and perhaps also from the "special angles" and assessment of the judges in this discipline ...!

From the perspective of hosts and even the long-standing, successful operating in the world rankings Caroline Weber, is to be desired and enjoy a best possible conclusion of her international career .
