Men s Qualification: Whitlock in front of Verniaiev and Belyavskiy

The first day of the 35th Men's Artistic Gymnastics European Championships finished after three subdivisions with 159 athletes, representing 37 different nations. At the end Max Whitlock from Great Britain was the best of all-around with a score of 89,365 points. After the third subdivision Oleg Verniayev (UKR) came on second (88,265) and he pushed Russia's David Belyavskiy (88,623) on third place, followed by Oleg Stepko (UKR) on fourth (88,224).
After retirement of the German titleholder Philipp Boy and the start waiver of the other German top stars like Olympic silver medalist Marcel Nguyen and Fabian Hambüchen only less than one third of the 159 athletes completed a full all-around competition!

To the second time since 1987 the legendary Olympic Hall of Moscow experienced an European Championships of Artistic gymnastics, which will held to the third time (St. Petersburg, 1998) in Russia.

The Briton Max Whitlock sat down in the afternoon's 2nd group at the forefront of the all-arounder (89.365) and was not even on until the end.

He came closest in the last group Oleg Verniaiev from Ukraine (89.331) ousted the Russians leading from the first group, David Belyavskiy in third (88.265).

Oleg Stepko on fourth place, the Ukrainians have a second promising athletes on a medal place in the all-around final of the best 24 on Friday 
and also the vice-champion of Europe in Berlin (2011), Daniel Purvis on rank 6 is not out of the race!
