Patricia Wade was attracted to sport early in life; firstly in swimming and hockey before Artistic and then Acrobatic Gymnastics absorbed her life. As a coach, she displayed her skill in many categories: Artistic, Trampoline, Rhythmic, Gymnastics for All, and Acrobatics. Her expertise and prodigious experience have been acknowledged well beyond the borders of Great Britain.
A national and international judge, and member of the technical committees of British Gymnastics, she went on to join the ranks of the International Federation of Sports Acrobatics (IFSA). During the IFSA-FIG merger in 1999, Patricia Wade was President of the discipline’s Technical Committee, a mandate she would hold for two full Olympic cycles, from 2000 – 2008.
Fighting a relentless disease, she remained faithful to her life passion for the sport. With failing health, Patricia withdrew from the Helsinki (FIN) Congress in 2008. The ovation she received then echoed through the following years of her life.
In her private life she was
honoured by the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. On the occasion of the statutory General Assembly, members of the GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations) honoured Dr. Patricia Wade with the Excellence Prize.
This prestigious award paid tribute to Ms Wade's contribution and personal commitment to the development of sport, education and health concerns for gymnasts.
Pat's comments at the time reveal much of her sense of duty and care for her chosen path in life.
“In receipt of this award, I honour the sport of gymnastics, which has helped me to realise my dreams and those of others by giving opportunities to thousands of youngsters and adults to invest in healthy, creative and expressive sporting activity throughout their lives".
Her wisdom, judgement, humour, dedication and enthusiasm give us all a spirit for life to aspire to.
