Bessonova - Superstar in Spain again...!

Saturday and Sunday, November 8/9, the Basque Gymnastics Federation (ESP) organised “EuskalGym 2008”, an international meeting for rhythmic gymnastics groups from all over Spain and special guests from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
The Olympic bronze medallists from Belarus won in their category and the girls from Ukraine became second.
Russia sent the champions of the Moscow region, a different group than the Olympic Champions, but they were great substitutes showing elegant and expressive exercises showing all the plasticity and beauty of their gymnasts.

For the participating groups from Spain this was one of the last tests events before the Spanish group championships at the beginning of December.
Also the Basque Federation made an emotive hommage to Iratxe Aurrekoetxea, Almudena Cid’s coach, honouring all the work of the past for the Basque rhythmic gymnastics with a conmemorative present and an “Aurresku” a traditional basque dance.
On Sunday, the hall got completely filled soon after the opening because Anna Bessonova, bronze medallist at the 2008 Olympic Games, was scheduled for an exhibition. Even after having slept only a few hours and having competed in Italy the day before, she made two perfect exercises, clubs and ribbon, and a very emotional gala.
The Ukrainian Federation brought several presents for Almudena Cid, who couldn’t attend the event due to her current work, includin a text, written in Spanish, where they expressed their feelings about her retirement.

All in all it was a great event, showed a big will from the Basque Federation to offer the best of the best in rhythmic gymnastics to the audience, with a great organization and work of the many officials and volunteers involved.
