The best 12 gymnasts after the all-around-descisions
19th GYMNASTIK INTERNATIONAL 2008
- Fellbach-Schmiden (Germany), March 8 - 9
PRAISE OF SLOWNESS
All around champion Aleksandra Solovyeva from Russia achieved what has become rare due to the current rules: She had chosen slow music almost everywhere, mostly classical, very terpsichorean sounds - and accompanied by these she performed expressively, elegant as a ballerina. It seemed as if she had all the time of the world to place all the compulsory and optional elements in the curt frame of 90 seconds. We can expect anything of this gymnast - not only concerning the apparatus final on Sunday, but also in the future.
Very different were the presentation of the second in the all-around-competition and local heroine Johanna Gabor of the TSV Schmiden: She loves it fast and energetic, performs with verve, bold and stirring. and she was rewarded for that: With 66, 475 she achieved the second place curtly - with the hoop she did a masterpiece and got the highest hoop score of the whole tournament. The Israeli gymnast Koral Kremer, ranking third, showed a very convincing performance as well - she is a sporty girl, who has a very sympathetic air on the competition floor. Apart from that she did not committ any mistakes so that the bronze medal was well-deserved.
Karolina Raskina (GER) who has been very successful as a junior gymnast in the last years, accomplished her first international competition in the master's class. Therefore her results were hard to assess, but expected with eagerness. Karolina did a fair and neat debut and she came on place 4.
A little unlucky was
Aleksandra Zapekina of the federal sports base in Bremen. She is known for her spirited choreographies, but today she dropped her apparatuses several times and became eighth of the 12 participants. Originally, 13 gymnasts were registered,
Gabriela Hoferova from the Czech Republic had to call off at short notice.

Second by surprise Camilla Pfeffer (GER)

2008, March 08:
Juniors' All-around-Competition
Ekaterina Malygina from Russia won the juniors' competition with a score of 96,857 points in front of Viyaleta Kolun from Belarus with 95,248 points. Both of them presented the outstanding Eastern European school, convinced with a very neat programme and their great stability. That's when you notice that these exercises were rehearsed, balanced and stabilised perfectly, already at this early point of time in the season. That's great!
Big surprise: Camilla Pfeffer from Germanys achieved the third position (91,173) and did her four exercises with rope (23,575), hoop, ball and ribbon self-confidently and without any major mistakes. Camilla, who has been training for a long time in Schmiden, but started for the first time for the TSV Schmiden (TSG Tübingen until now), is going through a big change: from "Training type", who has problems recalling all he has learned in a competition situation, to a spirited, almost coolly acting gymnast - in a positive sense, of course. Go on like that!
Out of the other German junior gymnasts, Lena Rübke from the Federal sports base in Bremen was remarkable above all; she did a very neat all-around competition. The sympathetic young girl from Bremen performed full of spirits and remarkably came on fifth in the large field of 25 junior.
In the year of the Juniors' European Championships in Turin the all-around competition of the "19th Gymnastics International" was compulsory for all the junior squad gymnasts and was therefore watched by prominent people: above all DTB head of team Birgit Guhr, who will be in charge of the nominations, Isabell Niethammer, who managed the tournament in Schmiden and will be an international judge during the Juniors' EUROS, but also the head of the Technical Committee Rhythmic Gymnastics Ursel Born and the member of the TC Rhythmic Gymnastics in the International Gymnastics Federation (F.I.G.) Maria Szyszkowska watched the competition with eagerness.
