World Games 2013 - Düsseldorf and Duisburg do it again!

The cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf want to host the World Games 2013 together! Yesterday, Adolf Sauerland, mayor of Duisburg, and Düsseldorf's mayor Joachim Erwin presented their plans for the application for the World Games of the non-Olympic disciplines. "We are convinced to get a sportive highlight to the region of Rhein-Ruhr with the World Games", said mayor Sauerland. "The regional capital offers a supreme basis for the World Games 2013 with its perfect sportive and transportation infrastructure"...


In March 2008, the International World Games Association  (IWGA) will come to a decision about the placing of the 9th World Games with over 30 disciplines and about 3500 athletes from about 100 nations. Both mayors were confident to get the acceptance of the IWGA.

 

>> Among the participating disciplines are the gymnastics disciplines Rhythmic gymnastics, Trampoline gymnastics, Aerobic gymnastics, Acrobatics and Tumbling as well as Hall hockey, Korfball, Livesaving, Orienteering, Rollsport, Rugby, Sports climbing, Sumo, Surfing, Tug of war or Water ski.

Joachim Erwin sees better prospects in an application together with Duisburg than in a remake of the World Games of 2005. Duisburg's mayor Mr Sauerland emphasized the organizational improvement in the World Games which can be achieved by the cooperation with Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf did not only contribute to the application with their competence as host of important sports events, but also possesses convenient sports venues, such as the LTU arena, the Philipshalle, ISS Dome, Burgwächter Castello and the Rheinbad and the fair trade halls. In the LTU arena in Düsseldorf the final event is supposed to take place. In the MSV-Arena in Duisburg the eleven days of the World Games in summer 2013 are supposed to be inaugurated. 
>> During the talks with the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB), the Ministry of the Interior and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia they received positive feedback to the application plans, said Erwin. The president of the IWGA, Ron Froehlich, is informed about the initiative as well, says Sauerland.
