Detailed Results: BALANCE BEAM Almost all competitors came through their routines without falls, though nearly all had a few wobbles in their routines. A lot of sidewards elements, like somersault sidewards tucked, were presented and also the combination of leap – wolf jump was quite popular.
Irina Isayeva from Russia kicked of the women’s beam final with a nice routine including somersault fwd. tucked – sheep jump, ff - layout stepout bwd., Onodi and a good double somersault bwd. piked dismount. She had two slight wobbles today, one of them slightly interrupted a combination a bit.
Lais Souza (BRA) presented her difficult routine very well today. She began with a somersault fwd. piked (not totally executed in a piked position), another somersault fwd. piked on the beam, somersault fwd. tucked – ff – layout stepout bwd., Onodi, leap – wolf jump and the dismount ff - ff - double somersault bwd. tucked.
Li,Ya from China remained without a fall today but unfortunately nonetheless had a few slight wobbles in her very difficult and nicely composed routine including Onodi, piked Barani, a very nice Rulfova, somersault fwd. tucked – sheep jump, switch leap – wolf jump and dismount double somersault bwd. piked.
Veronica Wagner from Sweden showed a concentrated routine (including switch leap – wolf jump, somersault fwd. tucked, somersault bwd. tucked and the difficult dismount somersault fwd. tucked (she made a large step to secure the landing of it)) and managed to avoid an “almost- fall” at one of her leaps.
Romania’s Steliana Nistor presented a fluent routine (including ff – somersault bwd. tucked 1/1 turn, front aerial – ff – layout stepout bwd., sidewards somersault tucked, dismount ff – ff – 2 1/2 twists). Like the other finalists before her she also didn’t remain without a few slight wobbles.
Rebecca Simbhudas from Canada came well through her routine but then unfortunately lost all chances for a medal with a fall on her double somersault bwd. dismount…
Like already during the qualification, Lenika de Simone (ESP) again showed a very good routine started with the mount RO – layout stepout bwd., Rulfova, front aerial, somersault sidewards tucked. Her dismount of “only” double somersault bwd. tucked maybe lacked a bit of difficulty.
Jana Bieger (USA) was the leading gymnast after the qualification where however she managed to present an even better routine than in today’s final. Nonetheless she came through her very difficult routine (including Barani, front aerial – layout stepout bwd., ff- layout, dismount double somersault fwd.) quite well and without major errors, though with a few insecurities in the execution.
Women’s Final FLOOR Results: 1. Isaeva, Irina RUS
14,675 2. Lenika de, Simone ESP
13,825 3. Souza, Lais BRA
13,700 4. Gombas, Laura HUN
13,525 5. Pihan, Marta POL
13,275 6. Ponor, Catalina ROM
13,250 7. Gener, Tania ESP
13,000 8. Brunner, Jenny GER
12,025 >>
Detailed Results: FLOOR EXERCISES Tania Gener (ESP) started the women’s floor final with a speedy routine during which she slightly stepped out of bounds once. Her elements included whip – whip – ff –ff – double somersault bwd. piked, handspring - layout fwd. 1/1 turn and 2 1/2 twists in the end.
Olympic Champion Catalina Ponor showed an expressive routine which however lacked a bit of power. She started with a piked full-in (though ended more in a tucked position). Her 2 1/2 twists – layout fwd. was landed very low but she managed to secure the landing well. Also the end of her routine with a 2/1- twist lacked a bit of difficulty.
Laura Gombas’ (HUN) routine (including double somersault bwd. piked, triple twist and 2 1/2 twists – somersault fwd. piked) lacked a bit of expression but she managed to get through it solidly today.
The speedy routine of Lenika de Simone (ESP) was well liked by the audience. Her combination of whip – whip – ff – ff – 2 1/2 twists looked very nice and she managed to continue well until her double somersault bwd. piked in the end.
Germany’s young talent Jenny Brunner couldn’t continue with her good presentation from Friday’s qualification. She fell after her 2 1/2 twists – layout fwd.
Lais Souza (BRA) started well but then had major interruptions in her 3rd acrobatic series. With this she lost all chances for a medal which she otherwise certainly would have had in this final.
Russia’s tiny Irina Isayeva received by far the most applause in the women’s floor final by the audience in Cottbus today and she also definitely presented the best performance and clearly won this final. She showed all her elements, including piked full-in, 2 1/2 twists – layout fwd., triple twist (small step to secure the landing) and double somersault bwd. piked in the end, very well and very elegant.
Marta Pihan from Poland ended this final with a beautiful routine. However, unfortunately she fell on her interesting acrobatic series of somersault fwd. tucked 1/1 turn – RO – double Arabian tucked at the beginning and with this lost all chances on a front position.
The most successful gymnast in the women’s field this year Irina Isayeva from Russia was quite surprised about this success: “I really didn’t expect to be that successful here!” Her further goal for this year is to make it into Russia’s team for the World Championships in October – “And I’m quite sure that I’ll be able to make that!” Her favourite apparatus is floor and as her idol she mentions a gymnast who also was quite famous for her expressive performances on this apparatus – Svetlana Khorkina.

Germany’s Eugen Spiridonov replaced the injured R. Gal (HUN) in this final and took this chance with presenting two good vaults including stuck landings. The SV of his second vault handspring – somersault fwd. 1/2 turn is a bit low but in the end he reached a good 6th place.
Feng, Zhe from China presented a better performance than in the qualification with his handspring 2/1 twists and Kasamatsu 2 1/2 twists (which had the highest SV in this final with 7.0). However, due to mistakes in the landings he only ended up on rank 5.
Fabian Hambüchen (GER) stuck the landings of his powerfull Yurchenko 2 1/2 twists and layout Kasamatsu 1/1 twist and secured himself the silver medal.
Diego Hypolito (BRA) was a favourite in this final but made a mistake on his handspring – somersault fwd. 2/1 twists and so lost all chances for the victory.

Mitja Petkovsek - the best on parallel bars again
|
A dream final on parallel bars! Many gymnasts managed to show great routines with a high difficulty.
After Yernar Yerimbetow (KAZ) and R. Kolesza (POL) had shown solid routines the first favourite in this field competed: China’s Zhe Feng. With Belle tucked and Belle piked he presented an extremely difficult program which brought him the score of 15.50.
Then followed V. Tsoulakidis (GRE). With uprise with 3/4 turn – Makuts and uprise with 3/2 turn to handstand he, too, showed a very difficult routine.
The performance of Mitja Petkovsek (SLO) was a true highlight of this final! His routine was faultless and included shoot-up, shoot-up 1/2 , stutzkehr on one bar, Healy, 5/4 somersault fwd. to support, Tippelt and double somersault bwd. to a stuck landing.
Fabian Hambüchen (GER) also managed to finish his 4th final at this Worldcup very well but slight insecurities kept him out of the front ranks here on parallel bars.
Anton Fokin (UZB) was the only gymnast in this final who presented a double somersault fwd. dismount. He ended up on rank 4.

14,200 8. Schärer, Christoph SUI
13,975 >>
Detailed Results: high bar K. Murata (JPN) was the first competitor in this final and showed a good routine with Kovacs 1/1 turn as highlight.
A. Vasiliev (RUS) presented brilliant flight elements with Kovacs and piked Tkatchev – straddled Tkatchev – Gienger but then unfortunately had to secure the landing of his double-double dismount with a few steps.
Also
Y. Yerimbetov (KAZ) lost all chances for a medal with a fall on the dismount.
Two Swiss gymnasts were in this final and certainly also belonged to the favourites for a medal. However,
Christoph Schärer fell on the difficult layout Jaeger 1/1 turn.
Roger Sager presented his routine with layout Kovacs and tucked Kovacs and ended up on the 5th place.
Fabian Hambüchen (GER) went into this final with a lot of self-confidence after his good presentation in the qualification. A lot of cheers from the audience followed after his routine with a combination of 3 flight elements and an overall great routine!
Japan’s
H. Aoyama came through his routine solidly and then followed the former World Champion on this apparatus
Vlasios Maras from Greece. He thrilled the audience with a brilliant routine including a new element, piked Pegan, and managed to overtake Fabian Hambüchen to win this final.
