Sports Aerobis: Success for the First Academy!
It was a historical moment for Britisher John Atkinson, Aerobics’ Technical President, when he officially opened the first Academy ever in the history of Aerobics. His pride and hope for the global development of his sport were evident in his introductory address. He expressed his gratitude, emphasising FIG President, Professor Bruno Grandi’s constant devotion, whose philosophy led to the establishing of the Academies.
The moment was also a historical one for FIG Academy Director Hardy Fink, also Director of the Federation’s Educational Programme, who is present at every Gymnastics Academy the world over. Alongside him, a panel of experts spoke on the various topics of the Level 1 programme. Maria Fumea (ROM), Holly Abraham (CAN), Valérie Grandjean (FRA) and Ron Weese (CAN) taught the first Academy and instructed some twenty candidates from Europe and Asia. The candidates must now continue their studies, going through Level 2 and 3 of the Academies, prior to obtaining the coveted FIG teaching brevet.
Following on the heels of Artistic and Aerobic Gymnastics, Rhythmics’ experts are next in line to open the first ever Rhythmic Academy in 2006.
