LONDON - the Olympic Host 2012
LONDON will host the Olympics in 2012 after International Olympic Committee members voted to bring the Games to the capital for the first time in over 50 years.
Paris, which had been hot favourite to win the vote, was beaten into second place when the result was announced in Singapore.
Wembley Stadium will stage the men's and women's football finals, archery will take place at Lord's, with baseball and softball played at Regent's Park, which also forms part of the road cycling course along with Hampstead Heath.
Moscow, New York and Madrid were knocked out of the voting at an early stage....

London was awarded the 2012 Olympics on Wednesday, narrowly defeating European rival Paris in the final round of voting to take the games back to the British capital for the first time since 1948.
After Moscow (15), New York (16) and Madrid (31) were eliminated in the first three rounds, London beat its cross-Channel opponent 54-50 on the fourth ballot of the International Olympic Committee vote _ capping the most glamorous and hotly contested bid race in Olympic history.
