Yesterday were opened the '8th European Youth Olympic Festival 2005' in the Italian Adriatic city Lignano, which will held from July 3 to 8.
All together 2,500 young athletes from 40 countries arrived and will participate in 11 different disciplines, among of them women's artistic gymnastics only.
At the artistics competition take part about 100 young girls at the age of 14 - 15 years from 35 different nations (28 complete teams).
On Monday will held the podium training and the competitions will follow from Tuesday to Friday this week....

About 2.500 athletes aged 14 to 18 from 48 countries take part in 11 sports disciplines (football, basketball, handball, volleyball, judo, athletics, table tennis, tennis, swimming, canoe & kayak and women's artistic gymnastics).
HISTORY:
The idea of organising a multidisciplinary sports event for young European athletes was born in the late 1980s.
So the first event took place in 1991 in Belgium (Brussels); further events were held in Netherlands (Valkenswaerd) in 1993; in Great Britain (Bath) in Portugal 1995 (Lisbon) in 1997.

Participating gymnasts 2005 have to be born in 1990/1991.
A team includes a maximum of three gymnasts, the two best scores counting for the team result. Each team (2 or 3 gymnasts) must include a judge (FIG brevet).
35 NOCs have registered a full team (28 NOCs) or an individual gymnast.
