Matthias Volz,, member of the German Olympic team from 1936 and 3-time medalist at these Olympic Games died on Thursday in Berlin at the age of 94.
Volz won gold with the team and bronze on vault and on rings.
Until the end he followed the present developments in gymnastics.
The last still living member of the 1936 gold medal team now is Walther Steffens at the age of 96...
Matthias Volz was a famous athlete during the 1930ies. The State of Sierra Leona even devoted a stamp to the gymnast who won the bronze medal on rings in 1936 behind the famous Leon Stukelj from Slovenia who won silver behind Alois Hudec (CZE).
