The current World Champions received the score of 51.00 points in front of Italy (48.400) and Belarus(46.900). With this victory Russia underlined their ambitions for the Olympic gold medal in Athens.
This competition in Duisburg is an imporant test shortly before the Olympic Games in Athens at which 10 groups will be allowed to participate.

The 2nd- placed group from Italy

Sad news at the beginning of the event, after the Greek group had to withdraw their participation at short notice yesterday, today now the group from Brazil couldn't compete either. Their most important gymnast in the group, Dayane Camillo da Silva, had injured her calf yesterday during training. At this point of time that shortly before the Olympic Games this competition in Duisburg is an important test.
The event started with fairies, princesses and dwarfs - quite famous ones actually: Edita Schaufler, one of the most successful German gymnasts, Johanna Gabor, German youth champion and Annika Rejek, German champion from 2002...…
It was a nice connection between gymnastics and art to present all groups with a little prolog. Spanish and Russian folks dances were presented as well as temperamental Italian variations and Corean folks art. - Following then were the World class performances of the groups. A good show which went on until the winning ceremony. The gymnasts didn't march in for it, they danced onto the stage for it. - A nice gesture which only was disturbed by the fact that in the end at the winning ceremony the Russian anthem was missing…
Belarus:
The Vice- World Champion has hopes for an Olympic medal in Athens. They ended up on the top ranks at all major events recently but are closely followed by Italy
They received a lot of cheers from the audience for their very difficult ribbon routine but unfortunately had two major errors in the routine.
Bremen 1860/ Germany:
Germany participated not with a national group but only with a group from the club 'Bremen 1860'. They are a very good club group but of course can't compete on the same level compared to the top national groups
But today they presented speedy routines with nice choreopgraphies and received a lot of cheers from the audience.
Spanien:
The current Spanish group follows the footsteps of the Spanish group which was the first Olympic Champion in Groups RG in 1996.
Today they presented a Spanish fireworks par excellence with original ribbon- variations which hardly had ever been seen before. The audience loved it! The routine with balls and hoops didn't go with the same ease for them but nonetheless it also was a speedy routine full of difficulty.
