American Cup
Five-time U.S. champion Blaine Wilson tore his left biceps muscle at the American Cup on Saturday, putting his hopes for the Athens Olympics in jeopardy.
Wilson was taken to the hospital for special surgery for further examination. No timetable for his recovery was given, but most athletes need at least six months.
When Bart Conner had a similar injury in 1983, he was out for seven months. NCAA champion Daniel Furney missed six months with the same injury.
The Athens Games are Aug. 13-29, less than six months away. But Wilson vowed to be there.
'As far as I know, it's just as serious as any of the shoulder injuries I've had, so I'll get the necessary surgery or treatment, rehab, and I'll be in Greece,' he said. Source: AP
