Trampoline Accident Turns Tragic
The USA Gymnastics Federation pronounced with sadness, that an accident occurred at 3:30 ET on Saturday, January 17 at the Flip Fest Invitational being held at the Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
While competing in the 15-16 boy's Junior Elite optional trampoline event, a 15-year-old boy bounced off the apparatus and sustained a life-threatening injury....
The 15-years old teenage trampolinist passed away early Monday morning from this injury...!
Statement from USA Gymnastics President Bob Colarossi concerning Flip Fest Invitational
The athlete was attended to at the scene by EMTs and rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center's level 1 trauma center where he passed away as a result of his injuries at approximately 4 a.m. ET on Jan. 19.
'USA Gymnastics would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the athlete, his teammates and coaches. It is always a sad day when our sport faces a situation such as this. We are confident that the organizers of the Flip Fest Invitational have taken every measure to ensure the safety of the athletes at the highest possible level, and conduct the competition in accordance with all international safety standards. USA Gymnastics will work with the meet officials to better understand the circumstances, and will continue to stress the importance of safety education in all of our efforts.'
