The Romanian Pair Oana Ban/Marian Dragulescu teamed to win the 25th Swiss Cup 2003, held Sunday in Zurich/Switzerland.
Qualifying second for the final, Ban and Dragulescu totaled 19.000 to outscore the team Oksana Chusovitina (UZB) and Belarus' Ivan Ivankov (18.925).
Ten pairs competed in the first two of four rounds of the competition, after which the top eight pairs advanced to the third round.
After three rounds, the top four pairs qualified for the final round....
Romania has dominated past week's competition in Europe:
On Wednesday, already Dragulescu won the men's all-around at the 20th annual Arthur Gander Memorial, held in Morges, Switzerland. Romanian Catalina Ponor and Ban finished first and second, respectively, in Morges.
On Saturday, Romania won the team event at the Trophée Massilia France (Marseille). Romanians Andreea Munteanu and Monica Rosu finished first and second in the all-around, as well.
Luck for Chuso and Ivan
At the Swiss Cup Chusovitina and Ivankov entered the final in fourth place only, because Ivankov fell from high bar (8.850), but he repeated high bar in the final for 9.600, and Chusovitina scored 9.325 on vault to sew up second place.
Monica Bergamelli (ITA) and Bulgaria's Jordan Jovtchev finished third, after Bergamelli scored 9.175 on vault and Jovtchev 9.725 on rings. (At the last years Swiss Cup, Jovtchev and his teammate Yevgenia Kuznetsova placed second. ) The top qualifying pair Catalina Ponor (ROM) and Switzerland's Andreas Schweizer (SUI) came on fourth place with 18.750.
