Olympic Qualification, Overview Final clubs An extraordinary performing again of Anna Bessonova with a new routine which she presents perfectly was the star of this final. Kabaeva drops a club but nonetheless wins the bronze medal. Irina Tchachina receives a deserved silver medal for her very nice, sporty routine.
Inna Shukova once again on rank 4, Cid with mistakes in her otherwise very beautiful routine during her only apparatus final. She ends up on rank 8.
Final ribbon It could have been the third victory for Bessonova... But she narrowly became second behind Alina Kabeva. Be it as it is:The impression remains that she currently is the most dominating gymnast. Irina Tchachina has been overtaken by Bulgaria's Elisabeth Paisieva in this final.

bad luck for Tamara Yerofeeva - no apparatus final today

Ukraine with super star Anna Bessonova
A moment of shock for Ukraine: Clubs World Champion Tamara Yerofeeva dropped a club...! A pity for the elegant gymnast who anyway has her difficulties with being accepted by the judges. But this has been the only mistake today of the three Ukrainians Godunko, Yerofeeva and Bessonova. A true highlight has again been set by Anna Bessonova with a dream-like routine which even is a new one!! She really is in her form of a lifetime at the moment. - As the very last gymnast she presented her ribbon routine - perfectly, elegant, sovereignly. The WCh's indeed have a favorite for the individual all-around on Saturday..!
Tamara Yerofeeva then also made mistakes with the ribbon - which means she has not reached one of the finals in the evening... The most hardest working gymnast of these Championships, Natalia Godunko, showed a great ribbon routine - nonetheless the team didn't manage to reach the score of the Russians.

Great competition: Lisa Ingildeeva (GER)

Great competition by Lisa Ingildeeva
The young German team remained on the 15th rank (212.700) - but Lisa Ingildeeva (91,275) improved her ranking: 17th in the individual qualification secured her a ticket to the Olympics (she even qualified as 16th as the third Russian gymnast will not count for the Olympic qualification). She received the score of 24.100 for her clubs routine and also finished well with her last routine, the ribbon.

Called for attention: The Gymnasts from China, here Ling Zhong

The favorites from Russia really didn't have their best day today. Their 4th gymnast Vera Sesina started well with the ribbon but their two stars Alina Kabaeva and Irina Tchachina both made substantial mistakes with the ribbon: drops of the apparatus, for both of them after a jump the ribbon landed on the floor - also in general their performances weren't on the same level as usual. With the clubs it even got worse: Olga Kapranova dropped a club, Tchachina dropped both at the end of her routine and Kabaeva dropped a club twice, one of them even landed out of bounds. An unusual performance for a Russian team at WCh's...!
How should it be explained to the audience that Kabaeva despite of a severe mistake still receives the score of 26.500 with the ribbon? It might be true that according to the regulations she has a sufficiant amount of difficulties in her routine to achieve that kind of score but how should the audience know that? Despite of several attempts to change the judging regulations, not much has changed in RG up to now and that is a real disadvantage for the sport.

Simply beautiful: Almudena Cid Tostado (ESP)
|
Convincing: The Spanish team
The Spanish team started strongly in the fight for rank 5, Colino with a mistake in her clubs presentation but Almudena Cid started with a brilliant and perfectly presented clubs routine – what would be the current RG without this beautiful 23-year gymnast from Spain. It would be a pity if she doesn’t reach any final as she presents a hope for the remaining of a female, expressive aspect in this kind of sport which currently is too much embossed by hyper- flexibility and uniform choreographies. The Spanish team also left a good impression with the ribbon and now can only wait what the value of their score of 226.375 will be in the end.
It was visible that it has been a difficult competition for all teams: The team from Belarus had some slight problems with the difficult apparatus ribbon (well, who hasn't...) which is nonetheless also a very beautiful apparatus....
When the Hungarian team competed the seats in the venue were quite crowded and it could be guessed how the atmosphere might be like when there are more people in this big venue.
