26th RG WCh s: Two victories for the Russian group

Russia in front of Bulgaria and Italy is the ranking for the medals in both group finals which have been the last competitions at the 26th World Championships in Budapest
The Russians presented themselves sovereignly with 5 ribbons (25.200) and 2 balls/ 3 hoops (25.275) but the decision with balls/ hoops, where 2nd placed Bulgaria scored 25.200, has been very tight. Favourites of the audience were once again the Italians with their spectacular choreographies.

Yesterday Alina Kabeva (RUS/ 106.475) has been the winner in a very exciting all-around final in front of Anna Bessonova (UKR/ 106.150) and Irina Tchachina (RUS/ 105.775). Bessonova dropped the ball once at the end of her first routine but apart from that presented an extraordinary competition and was celebrated loudly by the crowd.
Kabaeva, who already had been all-around World Champion in 1999, now is the most successful participant of these Championships. She had already won the titles with ball and ribbon.
Title holder Tamara Yerofeeva (UKR) only reached the 14th place.
The „Prix d’Elegance“ which is being awarded by the company Longines at each World Championship has been received by Almudena Cid from Spain.

DAILY REPORT, Thursday, September, 25th
Yesterday the Russian team (255,600) with Kabaeva, Tchachina, Kapranova and Sesina won the team competition of the 26th World Championships in Budapest. The 2nd place went to Ukraine (246,350) and Belarus (240,875) has reached the 3rd rank. Following the medalists on rank 4 and 5 are Greece and Bulgaria. Anna Bessonova (UKR) has been the top scorer of the individual ranking.
Anna Bessonova won her 2nd gold medal of these championships with clubs and Alina Kabaeva has been the winner in the ribbon final. So Anna Bessonova and Alina Kabaeva won two apparatus finals each.

Doping case confirmed

Moutier / Budapest, September 24, 2003 : The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) conducted unexpected and out-of-competition testing on August 19, 2003 during the training of the Bulgarian team of Rhythmic Gymnastics on the Sofia University campus.
A positive case involving furosemide was detected among the samples collected.
This control and examination procedure achieved, the FIG is able to release that this doping case involes the Bulgarian gymnast, Simona Peycheva.
