fig-info:-- Ludmila Turicheva, the legendary Olympic All-Around champion in Munich 1972, has been awarded the “Women in Sport” Trophy by the International Olympic Committee in recognition of her lifelong contributions to sports.
Ludmila Turicheva, born in Grozny in 1952, made her debut in Gymnastics at the age of 7. She became champion of the Soviet Union at 12, and team champion at 16 at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.
Persevering in her accomplishments, she became World Champion in 1970 in Ljubljana....

But it was in Munich in 1972 that Ludmila impressed the entire world, when she dominated all her competitors by winning the Gold Medal in the All-around individual and team competitions, the Silver Medal for floor exercises, and the Bronze for the vault.
After retiring from center stage, Ludmila devoted herself to the development of gymnastics, becoming one of the most active members of the FIG Authorities, of which she is now an Honorary Member. She was also President of the Federation of Gymnastics of the Ukraine, the country where she lives with her husband, Valéry Borzov, himself an Olympic Champion in Munich 1972, where he won the 100 and 200 meter run.
