Titleholder Emmy van Monfoort had retired after the last European Championships in Granada, which means that there will be a new national champ, as she cannot defend her title due to the priority of her education on university. Emmy would say goodbye in this competition, held in 'The Scheg' in Deventer.
As expected, Anna Pobokova from the club Sportuna won. The 15 year old youngster, originally from Russia and coached by Marina Avtouchenko, won the competition 92.191 points, more then 15.000 points then 2nd placed Lisa Vos (76.549, from the club SV Pax) and Sanne Kouters (coached by Zoya Kolesnik from Ukraine), who placed 3rd with 74.908.
As soon as the competition started, Pobokova would take the lead with a remarkable hoop and ball routine, followed by Sanne Kouters and Lisa Vos. Thanks to several mistakes from Sanne Kouters with the ribbon (16.000) and a very strong clubsroutine from Lisa Vos (23.050), Lisa would finish eventually 2nd, which means Sanne failed to get a better place then last years nationals (3rd place), also in Deventer. In Pobokova's last routine with the clubs, she would confirm that she was too strong for the others, scoring the highest score of 24.125 on the music of 'Sing Sing Sing'.
It's amazing how a non-experienced gymnast like Lisa vos came in second, as Sanne Kouters, Robin van der Weijden (fourth with 70.700 total) and Anna Pobokova already competed in last years Alfred Vogel Grand Prix.
Anna Pobokova would take all gold medals in the apparatus finals, too. Sanne Kouters would won silver on hoop and ball and bronze on clubs and ribbon. Lisa Vos took bronze on hoop and ball, but it was a surprise to see Maaike Hoogstede from the club SV Pax (clubs) and Robin van der Weijden from the club O & O Zwijndrecht (ribbon) winning silver. Once again Pobokova was too strong again for the others, which can be noticed to a 22.550 for ribbon and a 16.700 for Robin van der Weijden, who finished second in this last round.
As the Dutch NOS-television said, Pobokova is at this moment the only one who has the potention to keep Netherlands at her regular level and she will proove that in the World Championships in Budapest later this year. For now, she, Lisa Vos and Sanne Kouters are placed for the 19th Alfred Vogel Cup in Deventer, August 30th and 31th.
