After the premiere in Riesa 2000 the European Gymnastics Union organizes the 2nd European Team Championships this weekend in Moscow.
More than twelve OLympic and world champions are among the favourite teams. So the former Ukrainian star Victoria Karpenko celebrates a comeback - in the team of her new homeland Bulgaria.

2nd EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Moscow, 2003, May 3-4
The 2nd European Team Championship (ex 'Masters') will be held in the Olympic Sports Complex in Moscow.
The European Team Championship (ETC) is a competition presenting three disciplines: men's and women's artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. The eight qualified countries participate successively and by elimination in the qualifications (1/4-final), semi-finals and the final. Each team is composed of two gymnasts per discipline and can use a certain number of jokers (the score of the routine is doubled).
The eight best European countries (AUT - BLR - BUL - GBR - HUN - ITA - RUS - UKR) will participate in this competition in artistic (men's and women's) and rhythmic gymnastics.
Nearly twelve Olympic and world champions will be present in the favourite teams, like:
- Host and titleholder Russia: Alexei Nemov, Alexei Bondarenko, Svetlana Khorkina and Anna Pavlova and the rhythmic gymnasts Alina Kabaeva and Irina Tchachina; - Ukraine: Roman Zozoulya, Alexander Beresh, Aljona Kvasha, Irina Yaritska; Anna Bessonova and Tamara Natalia Godunko
- Belorussia: Dmitri Kasperovich, Dzinis Savenkov RG: Lubo Charkachina, Inna Zhukova
- Bulgaria: Jordan Jovtchev, Filip Yanev; Victoria Karpenko (former Ukrainian star) and Nikolina Tankusheva and the RG stars Simona Peycheva and Zornitsa Marinova

UEG info --- European Cup 2003:
2nd European Cup for Clubs 2003: no qualifying tournaments
During its last meeting in Edinburgh, the UEG Executive Committee was informed that 9 men's clubs, 15 women's clubs and 18 RG clubs were entered until March 1st.
Following the recommendations of the technical committees concerned, it was decided to organise no qualifying tournaments as mentioned in the regulations for this event (Article 7.1), but to begin the competitions directly with the quarter-finals (8 and 9 November).
The federations wishing to organise quarter-finals will be contacted after the definitive entries have been received (June 15th). The decision, in which quarter-finals the clubs will participate, will be taken at the same time. The finals will be held on December 6th and 7th 2003 in Charleroi/BEL.

UEG info --- The European Youth Olympic Festival 2003 EYOF (summer sports) will be held in Paris from July 27th to August 1st 2003. The drawing of lots of the starting orders of the teams and mixed groups was carried out on March 28th 2003 in Paris. It has to be noted that the organising committee might make some changes if countries are absent in order to ensure a good running of the competition.
