WORLDCUP Cottbus 2007: Men s apparatus Finals

With some remarkable performances the men's finals at the 31st Tournament of Masters have ended now.
Du, Weij won on vault with a very good performance! His team mate Teng, Haibin took the victory on parallel bars and with his thrilling routine on high-bar Vlasios Maras from Greece secured himself the gold medal in this final.
Yesterday the first final of the tourmanent on floor was won by the 22-year old Vadim Kuvakin (15,525) from Ukraine in front of Victor Rosa from Brazil (15.475) and Enrico Pozzo (ITA, 15.200)
The final on pommel horse was won by Krisztian Berki (HUN, 16,000) in front of the World Champion from 2003 Teng, Haibin (CHN, 15,925) and Jose Luis Fuentes (VEN, 15,450).
The victory on rings went to Regulo Carmona (VEN, 16,125). Andrea Coppolino (ITA, 16,075) followed on the second place and Oleksander Vorobyov (UKR, 15,975) won the bronze medal...

FINAL POMMEL HORSE
Fokin: ---
he started off this final with an overall quite well presented routine! His routine included Wu Guonian, Russian wendeswing 1080 degrees, flop and flop with Russian wendeswing, dismount reverse Stoeckli to handstand with 1/1 turn.
Mizutori: --- unfortunately he had a fall on the dismount and through that lost all chances on a front position... A pity because with his SV of 16.500 which was one of the highest in this final he certainly would have had chances for a medal.
Giraldo: ---a solidly presented routine but the highest difficulties were missing so he didn't manage to reach one of the top ranks in this final.
Kruykov: --- unfortunately he fell on the Thomas- circles, an element which is very well liked by the audience, so all his chances for a medal were gone.
Fuentes: ---The winner of yesterday's qualification showed all kinds of world-class elements today as well! Slight insecurities in some of his combinations led to a few deductions today but with his high start value he managed to win the bronze medal in this final.
Teng, Haibin: --- The World Champion from 2003 on this apparatus was also one of the highest favourites for the victory in this final. - And he presented a top performance including Flop Russian wendeswing 270 degrees, Russian wendeswing between the pommels and a sovereign dismount with reverse Stoeckli to handstand 1/1 turn. A very difficult routine which brought him the lead up to that point!

Krisztian Berki
follows Hungary's succesful tradition on pommel horse!

FINAL STILL RINGS
Irodotos: --- he showed very good strength elements, among them kip to swallow to inverted cross followed by uprise to support scale and Asarjan, unfortunately small problems on one of his swinging elements and a fall on his triple somersault bwd. dismount...
Hayami: --- also he ended his routine with a mistake on his dismount (layout full-in)... However, his strength elements were quite remarkable.
Vorobyov:  --- his dismount double somersault fwd. piked is extraordinary, unfortunately today he presented it with slight insecurities.
Rodrigues: --- also he tried a double somersault fwd. dismount but unfortunately with a fall today... Also small insecurities on his strength elements left the judges room for deductions.
Coppolino: --- he received small deductions for his dismount double layout which is only a C-element, however a D- element dismount would be required. He presented interesting swinging elements, e.g. the combination of Honma- uprise to swallow, Honma- uprise swung backwards to handstand and Jonasson to support scale. With this routine he secured the silver medal for himself!
van Gelder: --- a great routine - but just like in the qualification with a fall on his double somersault fwd. dismount. He ended up on the 4th place.
Balandin: --- the young 17-year old Russian managed a perfect combination of strength elements and swinging elements. Today he came through his routine very well and stuck his full in dismount. It's certainly necessary to remember the name Balandin for the future!

Regulo Carmona - first winner from Venezuela in Cottbus!

Vault is the first apparatus for the men on the second finals' day and the performances in the qualification gave hope for an exciting final!
- V. Kardashovs (LAT) kicked off the event with a Tsukahara 2/1 twists with slight insecurities on the landing. Following was a very high HS - double somersault fwd., however slightly overrotated.
