British World Championship Squad named ...

Titleholder uneven bars

The British Gymnastics Federation has named  the Women’s and Men’s Squads who are selected to take part in the 40th World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics in Stuttgart, Germany, 1-9 September 2007.
Leading the British women's team, which ranked 11th out of 33 teams at the 2006 Worlds in Aarhus (DEN), is the reigning uneven bars world champion Elizabeth TWEDDLE, who was the all-around best of a dual meet GBR vs. Brazil last weekend.
The British men's team ranked in 19th place out of 43 teams at last year's worlds. These Championships are of vital importance since they will also serve as Olympic 2008 Qualifications....
Dual Meet: GREAT BRITAIN vs. BRAZIL

The British women defeated Brazil during a dual meet held last weekend in Pipers Vale, Ipswich.

Seven-time British champion Beth Tweddle had the highest score on three of the four events.
The 2006 world champion on uneven bars earned the highest score of the competition (16.600) on her specialty.

Brazil's Jade Barbosa, who last month placed first on vault and fourth all-around at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, finished second to Tweddle (58.550).
Her Brazilian teammate, Ana Claudia Silva, placed third with 57.200.
Individual event winners in Sunday's finals were Barbosa on vault, Tweddle on uneven bars, Laura Jones (GBR) on balance beam, and Silva on floor exercise.

The World Championship Team to compete (6 / 5 / 4)  will be decided at the World Championships.
