19th European Championships in Trampoline/Tumbling

Yuri Nikitin (UKR) - most successful!

Winning gold medals in the trampoline individual and synchron discipline the Ukrainian Yuri Nikitin was the most successful athlet at the final day of the 19th European Championships of Trampoline in Sofia/Bulgaria.

With all together eight gold medals Russia was the best nation again, in front of Ukraine (2 titles), Belarus, Great Britain, Bulgaria and Germany with each one gold medal.
The Russian Olympic champion Irina Karavaeva won the individual trampoline discipline sovereign, and the British Kathryn Peberdy beats the Russian Anna Korobeynikova at women's tumbling....

Final Day in Sofia
The UEG Commentator wrote, that '...these 19th European Championships finished with some surprises, in particular in the individual trampoline competitions.
Some experienced competitors such as Alexander Moskalenko (RUS), Dmitri Poliarush (BLR) and Olena Movchan (UKR) could indeed not concretise their dreams for medals.
For the rest, one will remember the golden medal for Bulgaria in men's DMT, the bronze medal for Belgium in women's DMT, the silver medal of the Swiss synchron pair and a difficult competition for the Portuguese delegation. >> read more on the UEG-Website

Friday's Team decisions:
Five Gold medals for Russia, but...
... bad luck for the trampolining men's team: Three Russian favorites made three mistakes - only fifth place for the Russians, but she won all the other five gold medals in all other team disciplines of the European Champs of Trampoline in Sofia today.
The sixth gold medal in men's trampoline team competition went to world champion Germany with the balenced team of all!
Russia one more time takes five gold medals. Only its men trampoline athletes had a weakness and left the title to the German team, happy about this title so much wished for.
Bulgaria gains back its smile with a third place in women's DMT, behind Russia and Germany.
Portugal takes the silver in men's DMT behind the Russians and in front of Sweden.
France won the bronze in women's tumbling, behind silver medallist Great Britain.
Great britain won also silver in men's tumbling in front of Poland.

Friday's TRAMPOLINE PRELIMS
In women's trampoline, the Russian Irina Karavaeva, is the first after the preliminaries. Her difficulty score of 15.3 to be validated as 'world record'; in prelims she reached 15,1 already! So Karavaeva is the top favourite for the Saturday's final again!
In the men's competition, the suspense remains open as Alexander Moskalenko (RUS) and Dmitri Poliarush (BLR) only took the 3rd and 7th places respectively, and the reigning world champion Henrik Stehlik from Germany ranked on 4th place in the middle of both.
Russia leads ahead of Germany and Belarus in the team ranking.

The Euro Champs started on Thursday with synchron, double-minitramp and tumbling prelims. In the most disciplines the Russian athlete lead, in synchron the Ukrainians are in front with Olena Movchan/Yelena Demchevska followed by the British K. Lawton/C.Writh and with Olexander Chernonos/Yuri Nikitin. Also G.Short/G.Smith from Great Britain are qualified for the final.
On Fridy take place the preliminaries of the Olympic individual trampoline disciplines and the team finals....

The 19th European Championships in Trampoline/Tumbling and Double-minitrampoline starts today in the Winter Palace of Sports in Sofia, Bulgaria.
A total of 302 senior competitors from 24 nations will participate in this very important Pre-Olympic event.
For the trampoline, which is a Olympic discipline since 2000 in Sydney, these competitions will be the last big tests for the gymnasts of the qualified federations for the Olympic Games in Athens 2004.

INDIVIDUAL Finals
'The medals shared by eight nations: Great-Britain takes five, Belarus four, the Netherlands ad Portugal two medals, and Georgia one silver for its first participation… the hegemony Russia-Ukraine-Belarus is broken and a page is turned,' so the UEG pronounced.

TEAM Finals
Russia takes five of the six team titles, except for the one of girls' trampoline, discipline where they did not have a team competing. Belarus, Great-Britain and Ukraine take the honour places.
