100 DAYS BEFORE THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

- Gymnastics World championships with many innovations can be expected -

Artistic gymnastics fit for the new century...?

German version

In one hundred days – on Oct. 27th 2001, in the “Topsporthal Flanderen“ the 35th World championships in artistic gymnastics for men and women will start in the Belgian city Gent. The championships will bring some innovations to this usually quite conservative kind of sport:
For the first time the new vaulting table, which is approved by the FIG as a competition apparatus, will be used for men and women.  The Dutch version of it, “Pegases“, which is produced by the renowned producer of gymnastics equipment “Janssen&Fritsen“ has already been delivered and sold to all nations which will take part in the World championships, further deliveries to all over the World are running at full speed. Usually the reactions are very positive, sometimes even enthusiastic. The vaulting table is being accepted by the young athletes almost euphoric as it enables absolutely new opportunities of developing further techniques.

Janssen&Fritsen are the owners of a modern gymnastics podium which has been specially developed according to FIG-standards and on which it can be fully taken advantage of the modern competition apparatus with their own characteristics. Currently it is being prepared for use and transportation.

However, the plans for a training on it which will be possible on October 22nd are set since quite a while already and the logistics is prepared.

For the dates October 31st, November 1st, November 2nd Janssen&Fritsen have planned seminars for coaches. During them top-coaches will present to all interested coaches the most modern workout methods, apparatus and additional equipment. (Speaker: Dieter Hofmann, Switzerland).

(On a separate website on www.gymmedia.com/ghent2001 J&F together with GYMmedia inform already since January 2001 and now also shortly before the World championships on all historic and topical details about the World championships news on each apparatus.)

In addition to this the changes which were decided by the FIG-council in spring will be used for the first time. This will especially improve the TV-suitability of the gymnastics competitions:

The warming-up for the finales won’t be on the podium anymore. It will take place in a separate gym outside the competition arena. For this the Belgian hosts Vlaamse Turnliga (VTL) and the official supplier Janssen&Fritsen have enabled the most fascinating and modern opportunities with the new gymnastics centre situated directly next to the competition gym: The “Topgymanstiekhal“ will be the “warming-up arena“.

Only 8 instead of up to now 12 teams will take part in the team finale. The teams consisting of 6 gymnasts will only show 3 routines per apparatus, all 3 routines will count for the final score that means no scores will be cancelled anymore.
