HISTORY
Artistic Gymnastics

For the first time after the political changes the German women's gymnastics will have a friendly meet with  the Olympic silver medallist of Beijing 2008, the national team of USA.
This will be the eight's dual of women's artistic gymnastic teams of both countries, beginning 1962 in Berlin, and the last one was also the last official competition of a GDR natioanl team in 1989 in the USA ..

The hometown of the legendary Slovenian gymnast of the last century, Leon Stukelj (1898 - 1999), Maribor, is host of the oldes European tournament, the 42 anniversary of "SALAMUNOV MEMORIAL".
After the Friday's qualification the world champion Diego HYPOLITO (BRA) won the first decision on floor, followed by Alexander SHATILOV (ISR).

At the beginning of the new Olympic cycle the 30th European Championships for Women and the 31st Men's Europeans for the third time listed as "Individual Championships" by the European Gymnastics Union (UEG).

Wednesday, March 25 the first Japanese winner of an all-around Olympic gold medal at the 1994 Tokyo Olympic Games, the artistic gymnastics legend Yukio ENDO, died at the age of 72 years after a long fight with esophageal cancer.
Altogether Endo won 17 world and Olympic medals in his career, and took part of five gold-medal Japanese teams that dominated the 1960s, winning Olympic team titles in 1960, '64 and '68, and also the world team titles in 1962...

The second artistic gymnastics World Cup ofthe post-Olympic season - was the "33rd TOURNAMENT of MASTERS" in Cottbus, Germany.
The world cup winners came on men's side from five different nations, and for the women from four.
