Matthias Volz,, member of the German Olympic team from 1936 and 3-time medalist at these Olympic Games died on Thursday in Berlin at the age of 94.
Volz won gold with the team and bronze on vault and on rings.
Until the end he followed the present developments in gymnastics.
The last still living member of the 1936 gold medal team now is Walther Steffens at the age of 96...

In view of the judging scandals in the Olympic men’s artistic gymnastics competitions the most successful coach of the World Leonid Arkaev has asked for changes to be made. In an interview the president of the Russian gymnastics federation explained: ”Something has to happen urgently now! Maybe I shouldn’t say that but we have a mafia of judges”, this was reffered to the high-bar score of Alexei Nemov.
Also the former FIG- president Juri Titov spoke from a scandal...

On top of the GYMmedia World-ranking list in the men’s field Romania’s Marian Dragulescu overtook Jordan Jovtchev and now is the new number I.

Svetlana Chorkina however managed to defend her number one position. She is followed by her team mates Elena Zamolodchikova and Anna Pavlova.
All-around Olympic Champion Carly Patterson jumped from rank 22 to rank 5…

Carl Lewis for Ronny Ziesmer

The World star of athletics and nine-time Olympic Champion from the USA Carl Lewis took part in a support- campaign for the injured gymnast Ronny Ziesmer in the studio of the German TV- station “ARD” today. He suggested to use inches and not centimeters for calculating the value of the width of his standing long- jump into Euros. His 27.10 inches will bring the amount of 8,500 EUR to the account for donations...
