All-around World Champion Hiroyuki TOMITA comes to Cottbus...

The Japanese Gymnastics Federation send away its top star, the current all-around world champion Hiroyuki Tomita to the world Cup event in Cottbus at March 24 - 26. Also announced are the parallel bars Olympic Champion Valeri Gonscharov, the Olympic champion (2000) on floor Igors Vichrovs and the reigning world champions Diego Hypolito (floor) - Brazil's first world champion in history - the Dutch Yuri van Gelder (rings) and the Slovanian top duo Mitja Petkovsek (P.bars) and Aljaz Pegan (H.bars)....

Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs wins Canadian gymnastics trials

Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs of Toronto won the Canadian Commonwealth Games trials in artistic gymnastics, becoming one of five athletes to clinch a spot for the March 15-25 event in Melbourne, Australia.

Hopfner-Hibbs placed first in the trials rankings with 71.050 points. Alyssa Brown of Mississauga, Ont., was second at 68.700 while Gael Mackie of Coquitlam, B.C., was third, Brittney Habbib of Oshawa, Ont., fourth and Jenna Kerbis of the Brandon, Man., fifth.

David Durante defends US Wintercup Title

us-gymnastics: -- David Durante of Garwood, N.J., won his second straight 'Winter Cup Challenge all-around title, edging out Jonathan Horton of Houston by just two-tenths of a point.
Team Chevron’s Durante had a two-day all-around total of 177.700 for the annual event held at Las Vegas’ Sports Center Arena, which concluded on Saturday. Durante led the all-around going into the final day of competition, starting with an 89.550. His second day 88.150 was enough to hold on to...

New Zealand s gymnastics team named for the Commenwaealth Games

Eleven gymnasts have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March 2006.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee in conjunction with New Zealand Gymnastics confirmed the eleven member team including nine Artistic Gymnasts (five women, four men) and two Rhythmic Gymnasts.

Only two members of the team, Belinda Castles and Daniel Good, have previous Commonwealth Games experience, both as members of the 2002 Manchester team...
